I was too young to get into the clubs, but Disco got into me anyway. Growing up in the 1970s, the sound was everywhere — on the radio, in the films, in the way people dressed and moved. There was something almost mythical about it: the city at night, the lights, the rooftop feeling of being above it all: these are images from a world I observed more than I lived, but they stayed with me. When I finally wrote the song, I wasn’t recreating the era — I was chasing the feeling it left behind.
